The rise in business or professional travel to Kerala

“Business tourism” has gained great importance in recent years in Kerala. The business tourist visits the state for attending conventions and conferences related to certain type of professions. Travelling to workshops and other events related to certain industries or to represent some organization to which the individual belongs is also becoming very popular. The Indian Statistical Institute reveals that as much as 25.2 percent of the tourists visited India for the purpose of ‘business and related activities’.
For some business persons on a visit to the country, when considering a holiday Kerala is the ideal choice due to the diversity on offer. Perhaps no other state offers such a wide diversity of different options to a maiden visitor. Cities like Trivandrum offer a mind-boggling range of choices to the visitor ranging from beach tourism, hill tourism and even health tourism.
Another aspect that is proving an attraction to the business visitor is that almost all the business meetings are accompanied by ‘pleasure visits’ to the prominent tourist centers. The capital city being the seat of power, hosts hundreds of national and international seminars and workshops every month. For the state government ‘business tourism’ gave much more returns within a short span of time that through other forms of tourism.
When considering the travel itinerary of the professionals, the leading professionals travel only as a part of faculty or scientist exchange program. Other than the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI) and the Regional Research Laboratory, the capital city is also host to the recently started Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Biotechnology that hosts scores of seminars and workshops every year.
Other than the international business traveler, the prominent businesspersons from the other states also now travel to the state to enjoy the natural climate and other amusements on offer. The Vega land amusement park is also now witnessing a rise in the number of business travelers.
